Office of State Review

Legal BooksThe Office of State Review (OSR) was created in 1990 to assist NY State Review Officers (SROs).  A State Review Officer reviews decisions of impartial hearing officers concerning the identification, evaluation, program or placement of children who have, or are suspected of having, an educational disability.  Either a child's parent or a school district may appeal to the State Review Officer requesting a review of an impartial hearing officer's decision.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

Part 279 has been revised effective January 1, 2017.  The revised regulations are applicable to all appeals in which the Request for Review (formerly called the "Petition for Review") has been served upon the opposing party on or after January 1, 2017.  The amendements include, among other things, revisions to the permissible page lengths for pleadings and memorada of law.  Additionally, the timelines for serving a Request for Review and an Answer/Cross-Appeals has been revised.  You can learn more about these and other revisions in the following link:
